The colorful and cute shrine

Yasaka-Koshindo

I have never seen such a colorful and outstanding shrine before…and it is very cute!!!

Generally, Japanese shrine is imaged as a quit place that has a red trii, BUT this place looks different.

There, we can see tons of colorful balls beyond the trii and girls who wear kimono are enjoying taking pictures.

Yasaka-koshindo is a small shrine near yasaka tower in Higashiyama.

The colorful balls are called “kukuri-zaru” which means a monkey with bound feet and hands.

it represents the control of the playful and desire-driven creature everyone has inside his body.

My friend who loves to collecting red ink stamps at shrines told me one interesting fact of the shrine.

“It is said you must sacrifice one desire. If you put your desire inside one of the color balls that represent the monkey Kukurizaru, Kōshin will help you to make that desire vanish and instead, your true wishes come true.”

People have so many desires and sometimes that bothers our true wish.

So I interpreted the message that we should concentrate on only one true wish.

(I….forgot what desire I gave up and what I prayed already though…lol)

Anyways!!!

If you would like to visit a unique shrine, Yasaka-koshindo is the option.

いまだかつてこんなにもカラフルで目を惹く神社があっただろうか。。。

可愛すぎると話題な場所がある。

八坂庚申堂

神社って朱色の鳥居があって静かな場所だと思ってましたが、

ここはどうやら一味違うようです。

鳥居の向こうに色とりどりのぼんぼんがあり、浴衣を着た女の子たちが嬉しそうに写真を撮っています。

八坂庚申堂は、東山にあります。「八坂の塔」のちょうど真下に位置する小さなお寺です。

色とりどりのぼんぼんは実はくくり猿と呼ばれるもので、欲望のままに行動するお猿さんの手足をくくり、欲に走らないようにするという意味らしいです。

このくくり猿に願いを込めて

欲を1つ我慢すると願いが叶うんだよと

一緒に同行してくれた御朱印集めが趣味の友人が教えてくれました。

人間の欲ってほんとたくさんあって

それが夢を叶える妨げになってしまうこともしばしばあるので

落ち着いて、本当の願い事に意識を集中させてねっていう

お猿さんからのメッセージなのかなと。

私もさっそく願ったんだけども、

(どんな欲を我慢して、

何を願ったか忘れてしまった… 笑)
